The Paradise Is never as The Real world
Did you dream
about a place that is defiantly special for your next semester? Is it
possible for you to find Eden on Earth? You need to be more careful with
your dreams, practically when you are travelling alone ,because Eden
might found you first, and in a glance turn your life to hell.
In
the classic novel The Beach(1996) that revolve around find-and escape
paradise, written by Alex Garland, the main young character Richard
found a map in front of his hotel's room. Therefore, he was in a meddle
of important decision to make, leaving every thing behind him, and start
the seeking for the magnificent island that was as a legend for all the
tourists in Thailand or simply not.
Richard decided to start the journey with two French tourists couple, Etienne, and his girlfriend Francoise, they were at the same hotel that he was living in Bangkok.
Richard decided to start the journey with two French tourists couple, Etienne, and his girlfriend Francoise, they were at the same hotel that he was living in Bangkok.
After a harsh journey
to the beach they were so near from being killed by Thai drug dealers in
a dope field in the island. Finally Richard and his new fiends were at
the beach, and they met another people who mad it too.
Here the story
started to be wonderful to Richard with "Eden" between his hands. But
with many problems and horrific events in the beach, the dream of the
paradise died. Etienne, Francoise, Richard, and other fled the beach at
the "Tet" festival when their friends from the beach community tried to
kill Richard because he had copied the map to other tourists.
In
The Beach, I will focus on the massage of the book as I see it: that by
putting the humans' hand in the structure of paradise, every thing will
become similar to the real world, representing by politics, heartless
decisions, and lack of trust.
To begin with, when Francoise,
Etienne, and Richard met to discuss the map, the first question from the
French girl was" How can we know what we will find there?"(The Beach,
p.27) Pointing to the X- marked island, and non-of them had the answer
back then.
However, they found them self in "Eden" for a sufficient period of time. On the contrary, with every problem faced them, the doubt started to rise in their mind that they just were intoxicated about the beach and the real world just followed them there.

Similarly,
the building of the authority in the beach was similar to any
dictatorial leadership in our time, represents by Sal the social chief,
and organiser there. Besides, she had the freedom to diced on every
thing that just she, will see suitable for the community, for example
when she took the decision to let the Swedish Christo and Karl to their
death, even though Etienne demonstrated against her, she was still insisting to send
them out of the beach(The Beach, p.334).
Another side of the
similarity between the beach and the real world is When Etienne was not
feeling safe in front of his best friend Richard, and that what Richard
his self described about the atmosphere between them "Everyone knew I
did things for Sal. Everyone talked about it. They just didn't talk
about it in front of me" or when he said to Etienne "(The Beach, p.390)
You are acting like I'm the fucking Gestapo"(The Beach, p.390) All of
that will just happen in the real world, where the Interests, and the
lack of the trust between the friends are defiantly obvious among the
people. However never in the paradise.
To conclude, do not ask
about what the beach's people learn from this adventure, because in my
view they did not, and how they could learn from it after all the pin
and misery that they had. However, when a person leave the parodies
he will have nothing to do in the real life except of the dreams to do
the adventure again.
